CE Delft completes FSI benchmark for Afriflora’s PEFCR-compliant footprint tool.
CE Delft has successfully completed the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI) FloriPEFCR benchmark procedure for a footprint tool developed specifically for Afriflora. This milestone demonstrates that more detailed, data-driven and standardized product footprinting can be applied in practice within the floriculture sector.
The strength of the tool, developed by CE Delft, lies in the use of primary data and in the way the model is tailored to Afriflora’s specific operations, supply chain and input structure. This enables Afriflora to move beyond generic calculations and gain deeper, more actionable insight into the environmental impact of its roses.
The successful benchmark confirms that the tool meets the relevant requirements for PEFCR-based product footprinting in floriculture and highlights the role of CE Delft as its developer. It illustrates the value of combining sector-wide standardization with company-specific data and analytical depth.
An additional strength of the Afriflora tool is its alignment with the GHG Protocol. As a result, it supports both PEFCR-compliant product-level footprinting and CSRD-aligned company-level climate reporting within a single approach. This reduces duplication of effort, as product and corporate footprinting are often managed separately, with different scopes and methodologies.
While the current version is specifically tailored to Afriflora, the experience gained provides a solid foundation for further development. It offers a pathway for companies seeking more detailed insights, greater flexibility in key metrics, and deeper analysis based on primary data.
Afriflora, CE Delft and FSI see the successful benchmark as a meaningful step towards greater transparency, comparability and reliability in environmental footprinting across the floriculture sector.
